Alternative Assessments

Tests can be a good motivator, but they're not the only way for students to show what they know. Many students learn and express themselves in different ways. Consider exploring alternative assessments to provide a variety of ways for students to demonstrate their understanding, character and behaviour so that they can be rewarded for more than their academic abilities.

Here are some examples of alternative assessments:

Projects/Presentations: Students research, create, and present a project on a specific topic. This allows them to demonstrate knowledge, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills. For example students research and create a project on a specific topic related to the madrasah curriculum. This project could be anything from a model of a mosque to a multimedia presentation on a historical Islamic figure.

Debates/Discussions: Students engage in discussions or debates on a particular concept, revealing their critical thinking and ability to defend their ideas. For example students can discuss the different positions of hand placement and foot position in Salah according to different madhabs and what their evidences and objections are.

Performance-based tasks: Students complete tasks that require them to apply their learning in a practical way. For example, Hadith Role-Playing: Students are assigned a Hadith and role-play a situation where they apply its teachings. This evaluates their understanding of Hadith content and its practical application.
